Now that my divorce is final, what should I do?

The first instruction to every client is to retain a hard copy of the Judgment of Divorce and any accompanying order. This is a legal document provided by the judge that finalizes the divorce process. It will contain the judge’s ruling on all aspects of the divorce, including any specific terms of the parties’ agreement. The second instruction is to note any time frames in the Judgment of Divorce. These are deadlines that actions must be taken. Put them on your calendar and set a trigger date at least two weeks in advance, if possible. This will prevent you from missing any important deadlines. Our final instruction to all our clients is to update their estate plans and beneficiaries. If you need help with updating your estate plan, we can help do that as well.
