Post-Judgment Issues

Family legal situations often do not end with a settlement agreement or final judgment of divorce. Because a Judgment cannot possibly resolve all issues, particularly those issues involving child custody, parenting time, child support or spousal support modifications, change of domiciles or which school a child will attend, modifications to the original judgment become necessary. Families grow and change, and adjustments may need to be made to accommodate those changes. Those changes will require a modification to the terms agreed upon when the judgment was entered. Therefore, our representation can continue beyond the divorce.

When agreements are easily reached after entry of the judgment, an attorney may be hired to properly draft the necessary paperwork to reflect the new agreement and arrange to have it filed with the court. However, if an agreement is not so easily reached, an attorney can help present the right evidence to the court to show why the requested modification is warranted based on the change of circumstances or proper cause.
